Long before The Makhana had a logo, it had two foodies and one chai stall in Old Rajendra Nagar. Their friend Jagan brought Shazeed and Khush to the same table one evening — and uncle ki chai did the rest. One cup became four, four became a daily adda, and somewhere between refills they found they shared one opinion about food: if it isn't honest, it isn't worth eating.

Ask either of them where anything tastes best in Delhi and you'll get an exact address — the right lane for chhole bhature, the one corner for momos, the kulfi worth crossing the city for at midnight. Late-night ghumna turned the whole city into their personal food map.

Then life did what life does. Shazeed went into software — building websites, brands and everything that lives on a screen. Khush went into kitchens and became a chef — the kind who tastes a dish and can tell you exactly which ingredient was rushed. Different worlds, same standard: do it properly or don't do it at all.

In 2026, over one of those chai conversations that starts as timepass and ends as a plan, they kept circling back to makhana — an honest Indian superfood, handpicked from Bihar's ponds for generations, still stuck in boring, oily, forgettable packets. It deserved better. They decided to be the ones to give it better.

So they split the job the way they'd split everything since that first cup of chai. Khush obsesses over the product — the sourcing, the roast, the flavour, the refusal to let palm oil or maida anywhere near a pouch. What's inside instead: foxnuts, cold-pressed oil, honest seasoning — nothing else. Shazeed obsesses over everything you see and click — the brand, the website, the experience of buying it. Neither lets the other cut a corner.

Two friends finally made the snack they always wanted to share — with one promise baked in: the taste we felt in Delhi's lanes is the taste we deliver. Nothing less. And yes, we're new — our standard isn't. It's been brewing since that first cup of chai.
